Extended Reality in Travel Industry

In the last five years, many devices that support extended reality have been developed. As of now, a lot of mobile devices can provide one form of extended reality or another. As a result, this has paved the way for developing several games for mobile devices, which use extended reality. Furthermore, several other sectors have also made attempts to utilize the three variants of extended reality in their service repertoire. One such industry is the travel industry, which has been significantly changed by advancements in mobile devices. Now more than ever, every company that aims to stay afloat in the travel industry must have some form of a mobile application for ease of use. Also, many of the big players in the travel industry are thinking of ways to provide users with extended reality-based experiences to gain ground amongst the youth. Many businesses are using various versions of extended reality to remain competitive. Some of the ways extended reality is used are described below.

For Accommodations and Hotels

Many hotels and resorts extensively use extended reality to provide clients with exciting information about their services. With the help of 3D and 360-degree visual exhibitions, travelers can gauge the quality of service they are likely to get from a particular hotel. Also, through the use of extended reality, accommodations and hotels can provide guests an interactive approach to access services and amenities during their stay. Some hotels go a step further by providing users with interactive content about the local environment. This approach is particularly effective for travelers that travel in search of new sights and adventure. Many hotels have developed detailed extended reality maps that are meant to excite the interest of a traveler.

Assisted Destination Information

With the help of augmented reality – in particular glasses – travelers can get information about destinations and monuments. For example, a traveler who visits a mountain site or a shrine can visually see more details about real-time experiences. This approach can go a long way in significantly increasing a tourist’s enthusiasm for travel and exploration as information is readily available. Additionally, this may also extend to other locations within a city. Therefore, a traveler can easily access a hotel or a restaurant’s ratings by simply accessing information about the site using the augmented reality glasses.

Gamification

The travel industry is increasingly investing money in gamification for the clients both in transit and within accommodations. Many hotels now have extended reality gaming applications that allow travelers to have fun playing with famous entertainment characters and more. Some hotels also provide XR facilities that will enable users to play around with decoration in their hotel rooms.

Bridging the Language Divide

Not speaking the language of a foreign land is most of the times a difficult thing. Therefore, many travel businesses are investing money into providing travelers with extended reality technology that allow the translation of local signs and means to make the life of a traveler a whole lot easier.
