Extended Reality Implementation

Since the creation of extended reality, its use has increased steadily over the past decade. More and more industries are using this technology for different types of activities. Educational institutions, manufacturing industries, research centers, and many other industries have embraced extended reality.

The term extended reality refers to a group of technologies that include mixed reality (MR), augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR). It also includes other forms of similar technologies that may be created in the future. The correct implementation of extended reality technology is essential to ensure the continued use and sustainability of the technology.

Preparation for Implementation

If a business or an institution intends to include extended reality technologies within its operation, adequate preparations must be made. Since each organization has specific requirements, such needs must be taken into consideration. Therefore, an institution must have a list of extended reality companies and the services they offer. Likewise, an institution must select the company that best suits its needs.

Before an extended reality service provider is selected, several criteria must be considered. Therefore, it may be beneficial if an institution creates a committee, which will evaluate and decide on the best service provider. Once selected, the process of including extended reality in the business's operations can begin.

Implementation Process

Once the extended reality service provider is selected, the actual process of implementation begins. At this point, an institution must make several changes to its operations.

The first step of the implementation of extended reality is the training of staff. If extended reality is being deployed in a school, teachers or professors must be given the necessary training on how to use such technology within a classroom.

Next, specific content must be developed for each type of extended reality technology. If the technology is being used in a school environment, the entire curriculum must be redesigned to include extended reality. If it is used in a real estate business, the content that a real estate agent presents to clients must be augmented accordingly. Creating such content may take months or even years to complete. Therefore, adequate time must be given to ensure that the correct content is created.

Pilot Period

Even after the creation of content, a pilot test must be conducted to ensure everything works properly. A close or an open pilot can be done. A close pilot is used to perfect the use of an extended reality technology within the institution without involving students or clients. On the other hand, an open pilot will usually include students or clients. Each type of pilot allows both the business and extended reality service providers to perfect the system.

Full Implementation of Extended Reality

Once the implementation process is completed, the extended reality technology can be fully implemented. All the required equipment such as headsets and other wearables are provided. In most cases, a business or an institution will have a feedback system that ensures the use of extended reality technology is improved at each stage of use.
