From AR to VR
AR (augmented reality) and VR (virtual reality) are two tools that belong to the extended reality group of technologies. Each form of technology has a lot of potential in different forms of industries by enhancing the user experience. Most non-techies cannot differentiate AR from VR. However, each technology is different from the other.
AR
Augmented reality is the most easily implemented technology amongst all the extended reality technologies. Any user with a smart device can make use of AR. In simple terms, AR technology takes graphics and other computer-generated objects and superimposes them to the physical environment via smart devices or smart glasses. The main function of AR is to augment what the user sees and add to their experience.
VR
Virtual reality is more technical than AR. It is a type of technology that gives a user a completely virtual experience powered by a digital computer. AR is achieved through the use of wearables such as headsets, headphones, handheld sensors, and body sensors. A user is able to interact with the virtual environment and other VR users.
Difference Between AR and VR
From the brief description of the two extended reality technologies, it is clear that each is different from the other. Some of the differences between AR and VR are discussed below.
- AR attempts to augment experiencing the physical world by introducing images and other computer-generated objects or options onto the physical world via a smart device or glasses. While VR provides a user a completely virtual experience via special technology.
- The users of AR are in complete control of what happens within their environment. On the other hand, the users of VR are constrained by the limitations of the programmed environment.
- AR technology can be access using AR glasses or a smart device via its camera. However, VR can only be accessed when the complete headset and all other accessories are used together to generate the experience. Therefore, the technology used for VR is more expensive than AR technology.
- AR is used when the user wants to enhance how they interact with objects and other people in the real world. VR is used to present users with a unique experience that is independent of the real world.

As the use of each of these technologies increases exponentially the demand for experts in each field is also growing at a similar rate. As a result, there is a significant level of potential for people who want to get work in the extended reality industry in general. As each technology develops and becomes more specialized, more experts are going to be in demand.
